Brass No More

I bought this (what started out as brass) lamp the other day for $5, spray painted it high gloss white and topped it with a Target lamp shade.

I didn't take a before picture but the finish looked like this:

The real reason I bought it
a switch at the base!
I know I'm not the only one out there who falls asleep reading at night.
Well, I do and I have been wanting a lamp with the switch located on the base.
You know, like at a hotel.
That way instead of having to sit up out of your comfortable spot to reach the top switch, you just put your arm out, turn the switch, and zzzzzz

(it's the little things people!)
This lamp is 3' tall and weighs ALOT
and it could always be on the ready as a weapon.
Some people have a baseball bat by their bed,
 me..
I will be wielding this lamp.

Oh, and I decided to keep my white owl lamp
I just love him in the corner of my office,
he makes me smile :)

 Take that, West Elm.

I know what you mean, why don't we see lamps like that every where? I reach up to shut mine off, I am going to keep my eyes open for one!

Just wondering if you had to use a primer first on the brass? I would have thought that spray paint from a can would slide right off but this looks great and I have a brass candelabra I have been wanting to do something similar with ... please let me know if any special preparation went into it. Cheers Ms V

I shant overlook those brass lamps at yardsales and Goodwill this year after seeing yours, Jenn! Amazing what a coat of glossy white paint will accomplish.

Take care,
Erin

P.S.--Love your owl lamp! I immediately though of Cassie at Primtive and Proper and chuckled when I saw her comment.
